Founded by Larry and Jan Hance in 1983, the Hance companies began as a primary fault locating business serving Minnesota's electrical cooperatives.  It wasn't long before customers began requesting line locates, a task that rapidly eclipsed the company's original mission.  Picking up momentum and employees, in 1989 Hance secured the first full-time locating contract ever let in Minnesota coincidental to the passage of our state's One-Call legislation. 

Quickly building a reputation for quality work and great customer service, Hance soon added a wide range of clients including large companies like Minnegasco and AT&T Broadband, as well as smaller ones like the Carlson Companies and SuperValu. 

In the mid-1990's Hance began to diversify into other areas including vacuum excavation, landscape restoration and most notably- fiber optic splicing, testing & restoration.  Liability and risk management led to a restructuring of the original business into two independent divisions: Hance Utility Services and Hance Locating.

While the latter was sold to an investor group in 2000, Hance Utility Services continues to be at the forefront of utility damage prevention.  Our menu of services includes: underground utility locating (for private and select public facilities), GPS/GIS inventory & mapping, locator training, secondary fault locating, on-site enclosure refinishing, & landscape restoration. 

Hance has long been a proud member of the NULCA (National Utility Locating Contractors Association) including representation on their Executive Board.
